Set-top boxes are a very broad concept. Broadly speaking, all network terminal devices connected to TV sets can be called set-top boxes. However, we often classify digital TV set-top boxes into the following three categories based on the transmission medium of the program data stream:

Satellite digital TV set-top box: Also known as integrated receiver, it is used to receive TV programs transmitted through the satellite TV broadcast network and support data broadcasting, but the user interaction ability is poor. The relevant application standard is DVB-S

Cable digital TV set-top box: It is used to receive TV programs transmitted through the cable TV broadcast network, supporting data broadcasting, Internet access, games, stock trading and other valuable value-added functions. The relevant reference standard is DVB-C.

Terrestrial digital TV set-top box: used to receive TV programs transmitted through the terrestrial broadcast channel transmission network, with strong user interaction capabilities, related standards are European DVB-T, US ATSC.
